In Spanish companies, September functions as a second January, and in many ways a better one. Shelved projects are resumed, priorities are reconsidered for the final quarter, and people return with a willingness that no longer exists by February.
It is, probably, the best time of year to deliver materials to your team, and almost no one takes advantage of it because all attention is focused on the Christmas campaign.
The reason is practical calendar logic. Materials delivered in September accompany the entire academic year: they are used from the start and last until the following summer. A notebook delivered in May runs out halfway through; the same notebook in September gets used completely.
There is a second, less obvious reason: in September there is still budget remaining from the financial year and there is room to execute it calmly. In December the same expenditure is decided hurriedly and with poorer judgement.
Hardback notebooks, notepads, desktop organisers. These are products that stay visible for months and accompany real work, not the shelf.
A reusable bottle replaces bought single-use bottles; a mug replaces the disposable cup from the coffee machine. This type of product has a double advantage: it gets used extensively and also has a sustainability argument that stands on its own, without need for explanation.
Rucksacks and textiles. They leave the office, which multiplies impact, and they score best in the «I would take it home even without the logo» test.
There is savings potential that gets overlooked here. If you are bringing people on board during the year, it makes much more sense to produce all welcome kits in one go than to place a small order every time someone joins.
The difference is twofold: the unit price improves considerably with volume, and you avoid repeating the entire art approval process every couple of months. Simply estimate the expected new joiners and produce with a small margin.
One tip: for textiles in welcome packs, request a broad size distribution and opt for unisex cuts. It is easier to have a size left over than to find yourself short when someone joins in March.
Items that expire. Diaries with the year printed on become obsolete within four months. Perpetual formats, without dates, work just as well and don’t get discarded.
Redundant items. If your team already has a mug and bottle from last year’s campaign, another mug adds nothing. Check what was delivered last year before repeating.
Purely decorative items. In work materials, if it doesn’t serve a purpose, it won’t get used.
In merchandising for back-to-work you will find our selection of notebooks, bottles, mugs and stationery in sustainable and certified materials. For joining kits, see ecological welcome packs, and if you are looking for specific stationery, check out ecological office materials.
If you want to have it ready for the first week of September, it is best to finalise it during July: account for the time needed for art approval, which is where most of the days go.
